In this era where everything is at the peak of the use of technology, where technology has taken over human resources, it is very important for us to be well versed with the technology, its use, and its terminologies… Being into Technical field, I often read tech updates and for a long time, I am coming across the terms that are used in a technical context. For us, it is very important that we make the right use of those terms. Thus, here are the top 10 technical terms for the tech geeks… Enjoy!!!!! 

 

Interlaced Video

Interlaced video is a technique used to double the perceived frame rate of a video source without consuming extra bandwidth. Rather than increasing the total frame rate by two, interlacing instead alternates which lines of the display are refreshed in each pass creating the illusion of a higher refresh rate.

 

RF Site Survey

An RF Site Survey (a.k.a. Wireless Site Survey and Wireless Survey) is a process for planning and designing a wireless network that is capable of delivering the required wireless coverage needed by an organization. Elements of an RF Site Survey include:

  • Analysis and inspection of the organization’s location and facilities
  • Establishing the effective range boundary
  • Testing for interference
  • Determining the minimum signal to noise ratio (SNR)
  • Identifying optimal access point locations
  • Determining the number and placement of access points required
  • Auditing and analysis of an existing wireless network (if present)

 

Air Gap

An Air Gap (a.k.a. Air Wall) is a security measure where a computer, computer network, or computer system is completely isolated physically, electronically, and/or electromagnetically from other computers, computer networks, computer systems, and/or the Internet in order to ensure the highest level of security possible.

 

Hackerspace

A Hackerspace (a.k.a Hacklab, Makerspace, and Hackspace) is a place, facility, or venue where enthusiasts and individuals with similar interests can gather, collaborate, share knowledge, and/or work on projects together.

 

Cloud Spanning

Cloud Spanning refers to the use of two or more cloud environments (public and/or private) for an application that requires a large number of computing resources.

 

Messy URL

A Messy URL is a URL that is not easy to read/decipher from a human perspective and is more difficult for search engines to use for indexing purposes.

 

ICR

ICR (short for Intelligent Character Recognition and Image Character Recognition) refers to the recognition and translation of hand-printed, manually entered, or machine-printed text characters into machine-readable characters.

 

Spawn

In the context of video games, Spawn (or Spawning) refers to the creation/appearance of a player’s character, non-player characters, enemies, objects/items, etc. within the game.

Respawning is the recreation/reforming of a player’s character, non-player character, enemy, object/item, etc. after its death or destruction during gameplay.

 

Jaggies

Jaggies (a.k.a. Stair-Stepping and Aliasing) refers to the stair-like appearance of lines when there are not enough pixels in an image to realistically represent it or the output device (monitor or printer) does not have enough resolution to properly portray smooth lines.

 

PFS

PFS (short for Perfect Forward Secrecy) is an encryption protocol meant to ensure the integrity of a session key in the event a long-term key becomes compromised, meaning that only the data/traffic encrypted by the compromised key is vulnerable.

PFS accomplishes this by enforcing the creation/derivation of a new key for each new session…
